Project Description
Pend d’Oreille Winery sought to refresh their house wine labels designs to reflect the new owners’ aesthetics. As the winemakers prepare to bottle seasonal and reserve wines, each label would be updated to reflect the new theme.
House Wine Label Redesign
For the house wines, a bright and fresh design was requested, exploring themes of the lake and crisp colors like white, black and silver.
Each seasonal and reserve label is renewed with the blue-on-white theme, with elements and overall design updated to fit the owners’ vision and bottling requirements.
1.5 L Refill Bottle
The “Magnum” refill bottle is Pend d’Oreille Winery’s version of the growler. The longstanding refill bottle design is the Bistro Rouge cafe depiction—perfect for refilling with the Winery’s house blend on draft.
The Winery does offer other wines for refill periodically, and hoped to update the magnum bottle art to a more general design.
All of the Winery’s owners have connections to the east side of the lake. The new magnum bottle art reflects the iconic geography of the Green Monarch Mountains as seen from the special east side places.
Reserve Cabernet(s)
Some of the Winery’s Reserve wines fall within their house wine category. With two reserve Cabernet Sauvignons in barrels, the owners wanted to design a label that would straddle the house—but not house wine line.
Requirements were that the new label be similar enough to the house labels that they could be ordered together for cost effectiveness. Some obvious visual distinctiveness from the house wines would be beneficial for shoppers and Winery staff alike.
The final design uses the emboss and spot varnish of the house labels, and reverses the colors for a “black label” concept.
Oui! Dessert Wine
Due to supply chain changes and glass availability, the 2022 dessert wine bottles would require resized labels.
Additionally, client requirements included incorporation of the lake and changes to some of the artistic elements. Retained were the “Oui!” script and collage-like container for the logo, for some design continuity as the packaging changed substantially.
Reserve Chardonnay Adaptation
In preparation for bottling the 2022 Reserve Chardonnay, the Winery owners sought to update the existing label.
After reviewing several very different, new label designs, the owners settled on an adaptation of the existing label. This retained the original artwork by Barbara Schelling while updating the typography, color theme and layout.
